Hello and welcome to my website! I’m Zahid Raja and I’m currently a postgraduate student at Swansea University. I am currently working on a project involving electronic nicotine delivery systems (electronic cigarettes) – you can find out more about that here.
Zahid Raja: My Research
My research involves surveying policy makers and their support staff to see how they feel about ENDS and how they should be regulated. For my research, I have had to build a participant-facing website and utilise open source software to develop a bespoke survey platform to capture the views of my participants.
In addition to this, I have developed a database of participant’s contact details bringing together multiple sources of information from across the internet. This data mining activity of publicly available websites involved a complex search strategy including over 900 individual searches and lifting information from over 3500 websites.
Up until recently I also worked at a pharmacy as a dispensing assistant for a year to help build up my knowledge in the area. You can find out more about my amazing year at Well Pharmacy by clicking here. This provided me with a practical context in understanding how opportunities become available to inform patients about smoking cessation services as well as a commercial understanding of how OTC and Pmed sales work in a pharmacy setting. In addition to this, I have also had an opportunity to observe the patient journey in terms of providing NRTs on prescription. This context is important as it forms the basis of two regulatory options presented in my study.
